Film photography, while not as dominant as it once was, still holds some unique qualities over its digital counterpart. Here are some key points to consider:

  • Higher dynamic range: Film excels at capturing both highlights and shadows in a scene without losing detail, offering a range of 13 stops compared to many digital cameras' 10-12 stops. This translates to smoother transitions and richer tones.

  • Unique aesthetic: Film grain adds a distinctive character and texture to images, something many find more pleasing than the digital noise seen in low-light digital photos.

  • Natural color rendition: The chemical process of film can create smoother color gradients and more subtle tones compared to some digital sensors, especially in black and white photography.
